Our journey begins sharply at 08:00 am as we bid farewell to Cusco, heading north for a four-hour odyssey to the enchanting town of Capulyoc. The morning unfolds at Gladys’s, a local spot, with a hearty breakfast and a brief respite, setting the stage for the inaugural leg of our trek.
After a three-hour trek, we arrive at the Chiquisca settlement just as the clock strikes 15:00. The final stretch takes us to Melchora’s safe haven, where dinner is waiting for us, and the night settles in with the warmth of our cozy overnight stay.
Day 2: Moving Forward at Dawn
The second day begins at 7:00 a.m., with the dawn breaking at Melchora’s house, with each step bringing us closer to Marampata. After descending to the Rosalina bridge, we ascend the trail for three to four hours to the welcoming community of Santa Rosa.
After a few hours of hiking, the midday sun casts its glow as lunch at Flor’s house rejuvenates us. After a brief respite, our journey resumes, the trail guiding us to Marampata, where the base camp becomes our sanctuary as the sun dips below the horizon at 18:00.
Day 3: Exploring Choquequirao
A new day begins, heralding our journey through Choquequirao. We leave early in the morning for a two-hour journey to the archaeological center. We explore the main areas of Choquequirao, immersing ourselves in its ancient charm amidst the ruins Once satisfied with the explorations, a leisurely picnic lunch serves as a rest stop before our return to Marampata.
After retrieving our belongings, the descent begins, leading us back to Santa Rosa, where the echoes of the previous day’s lunch linger. The Santa Rosa base camp becomes our resting haven, preparing us for the final leg of our trek.
Day 4: The End of the Adventure
After a hearty breakfast at Flor’s, we started the long journey back to Capulyoc. Our anticipation of the journey down to the bridge and back up to the starting point is heightened by our familiarity with the trail. After days of exploring, we’ve earned a relaxing lunch together in Capulyoc as a fitting conclusion to our expedition.
