Day 1: Embarking on the Pitusiray Trail
Our adventure begins as we depart from the historic city of Cusco at the break of dawn, precisely at 6:00 am. The journey takes us to the quaint town of Calca, where we indulge in a hearty breakfast, fueling up for the days ahead. From Calca, our exploration continues to Huaran, the starting point of our trek to the captivating community of Cancha Cancha.
The trek to Cancha Cancha is a mesmerizing ascent that unfolds over approximately 7 hours, offering panoramic views and a genuine immersion into the Andean landscape. Upon reaching Cancha Cancha, we are welcomed into the warmth of a local family’s home, where we share dinner and spend the night.
Day 2: Summiting Pitusiray and Sawasiray Peaks
Awakening to the crisp mountain air of Cancha Cancha, day two marks our ascent to the majestic peaks of Pitusiray and Sawasiray. During our journey, our knowledgeable guide shares insights into the rich Inca history woven into the fabric of this awe-inspiring region. Upon reaching the pinnacle of our journey, we are greeted by monoliths and panoramic vistas of the two great mountains.
After descending to the small community of Huaychuyu, we are graciously hosted by Benita and her son Jeremías. The evening unfolds and offers a unique opportunity to connect with the local culture and traditions.
Day 3: From Mountain Heights to Thermal Delights
On the third day of our journey, we embarked on a breathtaking two-hour descent to Mama Cocha. Once we reached Mama Cocha, we were transported by bus to the nearby Lares hot springs. These natural hot tubs proved to be an ideal place to unwind and relax after a long day of hiking. Once satisfied soaking in nature hot tubs, we were on our way to Ollantaytambo.
Day 4: The Machu Picchu Citadel
Our adventure reaches a climax when we set foot in the ancient wonder of Machu Picchu. An early morning visit to the citadel unfolds, providing ample time for a thorough exploration of this archaeological wonder. With the help of our knowledgeable guide, we unravel the mysteries and learn about the rich history of Machu Picchu.
As the day concludes, we board the train to Ollantaytambo, marking the end of our Pitusiray and Machu Picchu experience. We return to Cusco from Ollantaytambo, carrying with us the memories of a journey that effortlessly blended cultural immersion with the beautiful Andean landscape.
